London Server Connenctivity
We have just experienced a brief connectivity issue in the last ten minutes based at the London Data Centre. Engineers are investigating this issue presently, however our systems are now running normally again. Update - 13:25: We appear to still be having some intermittent connectivity problems to the London Data Centre. We shall post an update on this page with further information shortly. Update - 13:27: The connectivity is due to an issue with one of the routers. System-administrators are addressing this currently. Update - 13:57: Engineers are still working on this issue. We apologise for any inconvenience caused thus far. We do not yet have an estimated time for a resolution, but will update this page again at 1415 Update - 14:15: Work is still in progess. We shall keep this page updated every 15 minutes (or sooner is more information is available)

New Virus Detected: W32.Mydoom.B@mm
W32.Mydoom.B@mm is a mass-mailing worm that arrives as an attachment with the file extension .bat, .cmd, .exe, .pif, .scr, or .zip. When a computer is infected, the worm will set up a backdoor into the system, which can potentially allow an attacker to connect to the computer and use it as a proxy to gain access to its network resources. In addition, the backdoor can download and execute arbitrary files. The worm will perform a Denial of Service (DoS) against www.microsoft.com starting February 3, 2004 and www.sco.com starting February 1, 2004. It also has a trigger date to stop spreading on March 1, 2004. These events will only occur if the worm is run between or after those dates. While the worm will stop spreading on March 1, 2004, the backdoor component will continue to function after this date.

New Virus Detected: W32.Beagle.A@mm
W32.Beagle.A@mm is a mass-mailing worm that accesses remote Web sites and sends email to any addresses it finds using its own SMTP engine. The email has the following characteristics: Subject: Hi Filename: .exe Filesize: 15,872 bytes The worm will only work until January 28, 2004 (See Note in step 1 in the "Technical Details" section below). Some customers have reported that Trojan.Mitglieder.C has been discovered on computers infected with W32.Beagle.A@mm. Symantec Security Response has developed a removal tool to clean the infections of W32.Beagle.A@mm.

W32.HLLW.Nettrash allows unauthorized access to your computer. This Trojan horse also has components to spread using peer-to-peer file sharing, Microsoft Outlook, and IRC. Note: Virus definitions dated January 13, 2004 will detect this as Backdoor.NetTrash.

Important Domain Name News
If you receive E-mails or letters through the post asking you to renew your domain name(s) and it does NOT come on a letterhead paper from Active Progression, please take time to examine its content carefully. We have been notified that The Domain Registry of America (or DROA) has been sending E mails and writing letters to domain name registrants worldwide misrepresenting themselves as the Registrars or the Host provider or ISP to the domain name. In this communiqué it has been alleged that DROA have been changing the "From:" field to assume the identity of your host provider. Should you engage in this transfer unwittingly there is a high possibility that you will lose control of your domain name until payment is extracted by DROA for its release. Please note that EU regulators have now ruled that it is unlawful for companies to send unsolicited direct marketing via E-mails (spam), SMS and fax. W32.Tupeg is a simple virus which spreads by copying itself to floppy disks as "mpeg_player.exe."

Server oxygen has a disk problem. This is being investigated.
Update - 1117: Currently the server is being rebuilt to have it back on-line. Our initial estimate is to have this complete by 1230 today. This will depend on the current integrity of the disk however. Further updates and timescales will be posted on this page. Update - 1133: Our engineers are currently working on an integrity issue discovered on the disk. Update - 1227: Our engineers are still addressing the integrity issue mentioned above. We do not have an exact timescale for this yet, but will ensure there is a further update to this page as soon as we have more details as to the progress (or failing that within the following hour) Update - 1308: We have discovered a fault on some of the disk partitions so we are now restoring files for the rebuild of the server. Please note that no data has been lost. We shall post a further update at 1415 (or sooner if we have more information by them). Update - 1437: Work is still ongoing at present with the restore. Again, we are unable to offer definate timescales at this point. We shall have further updates this afternoon or as and when we have more information. Update - 1654: Data is currently in the process of being copied over Update - 31/12/03, 0915: The Oxygen server is now fully functional. Customer may have found they could access their websites, email, databases etc. as of last night, however we have been carrying further extensive testing until this morning before confirming that the above issues are resolved. Update - 0926: We have had a report of a potential issue with some PHP driven sites. This is being investigated now. Update - 0939: PHP sites are now resolving correctly

New Virus Detected: W32.Gluber.B@mm
W32.Gluber.B@mm is a variant of W32.Gluber@mm that can spread by email and network shares. It uses its own SMTP engine to spread to email addresses it finds in the files on your computer. This worm also gives an attacker complete access to your computer. By default, it listens on port 5373. The worm attempts to terminate various security products and system-monitoring tools.

New Virus Detected: W32.Cissi.A@mm
W32.Cissi.A@mm is a mass-mailing worm, which also contains backdoor functionality to connect to an IRC server. This worm can also wait for commands. W32.Cissi.A@mm can spread over the network using the NetBIOS protocol. It can spread to systems that do not have passwords or to ones that have simple passwords. The worm is written in Delphi and is packed with UPX.

Further to our warning about the Domain Registry of America, Domain Registry of Europe and others, several of our customers have asked us to share with you the fact that they have also received official looking documents through the post, from these same companies. Please be aware that if you respond to these letters you will be transferring your domain away from Active Progression. However, letters received from a company called Nominet are perfectly above board and should be responded to. Nominet is the only Registry for all .uk domain names.
